Canadian Championships 2008
June 2-7, 2008 | Olympic Oval | Calgary
The Olympic Legacy Continues
An historic Olympic gold medal performance for Kyle Shewfelt became a transcendent moment in Canadian sport blazing a trail for a new generation of gymnasts, fortifying the depth of the Canadian Team in the years to come, and sending thousands of new kids tumbling into gyms across the Country.
With the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing fast approaching, the Country waits in anticipation for memorable performances, for historic achievements and for a new generation of Canadian athletes to join Shewfelt among Canada’s best. A new generation of emerging stars. And a sneak preview to the Olympic Games. The Canadian Gymnastics Championships will have it all.
Just three years after Calgary’s Kyle Shewfelt won Canada’s first ever gold medal in the floor exercise, the Canadian Men’s National Team qualified for the 2008 Summer Games with their young leader sidelined with a horrific injury to both legs. A new chapter in his comeback will be written at the Canadian Championships. Calgary will welcome over 600 gymnasts and 300 coaches and officials to the Olympic Oval where Canada’s young athletes in artistic gymnastics, tumbling, and trampoline will compete for National titles. This will be a gymnastics competition of unprecedented size in Calgary requiring the support of over 500 volunteers. Over 5,000 spectators are expected during the week of events.
As Canada’s largest annual celebration of gymnastics and the last major competition before the Summer Olympics, the event will be Calgary’s opportunity to meet the athletes that will soon become Olympians and cheer those that have already qualified for the Games in Beijing.

The rules of good nutrition are
quite simple. Consume
adequate food and fluid before,
during, and after training or
competition to help maintain
blood glucose levels during
performance, maximize
performance, and improve
recovery time. Athletes should
be well hydrated before training
or competition and they should
also drink enough fluid during
and after to balance fluid losses.
CAC's Sport Nutrition program is
designed to offer athletes,
coaches, and parents access to
nutrition tips, tools, and advice
as well as access to sport
nutrition professionals in order
to ensure good health and
optimal athletic performance.
All
our Coaching Staff are certified through the National Coaching
Certification Program (N.C.C.P) and are members of Gymnastics
Ontario.
